Lot’s going on? Can’t fall asleep? Too much on your mind? (Oh, wait, that’s me.) You might want to try Dream Water. I did. And it works. Dream water was created by guys that “stayed up all night…so you don’t have to.” They wanted to create an all-natural formula for a revolutionary sleep & relaxation water. This water not only tastes great (with a light fruit flavor) but it also has zero calories. The magic formula? Dream Water has 3 key (natural) ingredients, to transport you to la la land They are GABA, Melatonin and 5-htp (Tryptophan) to help you relax, fall asleep and improve your quality of sleep. You no longer have to eat a heavy turkey dinner, to induce a state of sleepiness. Just drink you Dream Water and off you go. Dream Water comes in the flavors “I Dream of Kiwi… and Plum” and “Lullaby Lemon w/hints of tea”. It also comes in a shot size (great for long flights) in “Lullaby Lemon w/hints of tea” and “Snooze Berry” (blueberry and pomegranate flavors).

I just wanted to share some wise words from Erin McKenna, founder of Baby Cakes NYC (and now L.A. and La Crescenta, California) and author of the book Baby Cakes, (which I featured on LBL’s Tentación Thursday, a few months back.) I am so psyched because I can finally have my Baby Cakes cake! I am celebrating my 40th birthday (yes, you read that right-FORTY!) this Sunday. Baby Cakes is making me a vegan chocolate cake with vanilla icing. I can’t wait to share it with my friends and family.
Here’s to having your cake and eating it, too!
Stay tuned for more on my birthday party, including my yummy (and healthy) cake!

It’s not like me to wait until the second week of January to write my New Year’s Resolutions. I am usually more organized. Normally, I would have thougth about this a month ago and carefully decided which resolutions I wanted to choose (and share with you, my La Buena Life friends.) But this year I have avoided this task, like the plague. (Ask anyone on my team and they will agree.) You see, I don’t really like “New Year’s Resolutions” I find that more often than not, I (and most people) abandon them within the first couple of months of the year. I think, more than anything, that we forget about them. We start the year with such excitement and high hopes and then we get back into our crazy lives and forget about the promises that we made to ourselves. So, this year I have decided on a few “goals” instead of resolutions. Here they are:
1. Get more organized!
I am sure that I could blame my disorganization on “mommy brain”, oh who am I kidding? I do. Enough of that! No more excuses! I am getting organized. (You should have seen what I did all day yesterday. I organized my home office, which happens to be my dining room, since my son has taken over what used to be my home office, as his play room.) I figure that if I get more organized, including managing my time better I will be able to…
2. Spend more time with my friends.
I spent most of my time with my son and my computer. (My husband is busy working at his restaurant.) So in 2010 my second goal is to spend more time with my friends. I feel as though I am living my Post-Baby life, right now. I love my son, but miss hanging out with my friends, as in my Pre-Baby life. This year I will get more organized & manage my time better, so that I can spend more time with my friends. Yeah! 🙂
3. Give more!
This year my goal is to maintain a “giving mindset”. Inspired by The 29 Day Giving Challenge, my goal is to give away 1 thing each day. Gifts might include, time, food, clothing, money, well-wishes. It feels so good to give, why wouldn’t I want to do that all year?
4. Do all that I can to get my TV show, La Buena Life, on the air.
This goal is a biggie for me and I can’t do it alone. This is where all of you come in. Please help me make this happen. How? By getting your friends to join La Buena Life and my mailing list. I have listened to your requests and I promise to deliver even better content on LaBuenaLife.com this year. So share the love, please! Send your friends our way and then when La Buena Life, the TV show, gets picked up you can watch it knowing that you had a part in making it come to life.
So, those are my goals for 2010. Maybe you can help me stay accountable for them. What are yours? We’d love to hear. Share them with us, in the box below.
Happy New Year!

It’s a new year and a great time to think about how you’d like to give back, to others, this year. As we transition from one year to the next I always find myself reflecting on the relationships that I had that year and where I would like to see them go in the next. Likewise, I take stock in what I have done for others. Reflecting on it, I am always surprised how much I really did do for others over the course of the year. That being said, I can always do more. So as this new year begins I am getting ready to give, even bigger than before.
Want to give more in 2010? The gestures don’t have to be grand. Here are some tips to help you give better this year.
Give Time As you know I am a big supporter of East L.A. Classic Theatre. However, over the years I have donated my time to all kinds of organizations, including the Wonder of Reading (where I read to a particular child every week) and KJZZ public radio (where I answered phones for their fund drives). (Can’t find the right charity for you? Browse back a bit in the Fabuloso Friday posts. I am sure that something will strike a chord with you). More importantly, I have given time to many a friend in need. Sometimes that is the most appreciated gift. I might watch a friend’s child so that they can have some time special time for themself. I’ve also helped friends organize rooms, files, do envelope stuffing, gift bags, etc. Lately, it seems that everyone is lacking time in their lives. Maybe giving a little bit of yours to someone else is the way to go. Try it and see!.
Give Skills Use your experiences and skills as a way to barter for services or products. Consider a skill that you have that would be helpful to a charitable organization, or even a friend (like web design, writing, fundraising, recruiting, etc.). I often teach a fitness warm-up at conferences and lectures. This way, I am sharing my skill and motivating the group, at the same time. Everybody wins.
Give Items I love the holidays because it is really easy to give things away. There are all kinds of toy collections going on and there are always those that could use a good meal. You can really give away anything (i.e. food, gently worn clothes, household items, wrapped gifts, etc). A great way to give away items that you no longer need is to contact local shelters, Goodwill and The Salvation Army.
Give Money You can give the jingling spare change in your pocket or a hefty donation to an organization you really believe in . If you do decide to give to an organization make sure it is trustworthy, and not something that George Castanza (of Seinfeld) made up. Contact the organization to ask how donated money is allocated and what their short and long term goals are. Depending on the size of the donation, it could be tax deductible.
I’d love to know what ideas YOU have for giving big in 2010. Please comment in the box below.
Here’s to a very BIG Year!

Since Oprah is one of my inspirations, (my dream is that my La Buena Life TV show will live on her new TV network OWN), it seemed appropriate to start off the New Year with some of her wisdom.

They are not only beautiful, but sewn with love and care and are made of Prancing Leopards’ 100% Organic Turkish Long-fiber Cotton Yarn. OK, so these aren’t exactly Jenny Craig brownies, but it IS New Years and what a great treat to take to a party tomorrow night! This recipe comes to us courtesy of my friend, Amelia Winslow. (You may remember some of her tasty recipes from earlier this year).
Her Peppermint Brownie recipe call for the following ingredients:
1 package Ghiradelli Chocolate Brownie Mix
Eggs — however many it says on the box
Oil — however much it says on the box
Peppermint Schnapps — replace half the water it calls for with Peppermint Schnapps
2 oz mint chocolate chips or chunks, melted (Trader Joe’s has good mint dark chocolate chips)
1/2 cup Candy Canes pieces (smashed into little bits)

¡Buen provecho y Feliz Año Nuevo! (Enjoy and Happy New Year!)

I tracked down a recipe for turkey roulade (spiral stuffed turkey breast). This is a great alternative when cooking the entire turkey is just too much work. Not to mention that it looks super fancy. Why not try something different this holiday?
THE INGREDIENTS ARE:
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup finely chopped celery
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup fresh whole-wheat breadcrumbs
3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme, or 1 teaspoon dried
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage, or 1/2 teaspoon crumbled dried (not ground)
1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
Freshly ground pepper, to taste
TURKEY & GRAVY
1 2-pound boneless turkey breast half
1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
Freshly ground pepper, to taste
4 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 cup apple cider
1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 cup onion, coarsely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed and peeled
8 sprigs fresh thyme, or 1 teaspoon dried
4 teaspoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream

I love that during the holiday season people are focused on giving to others. A holiday gift need not be gift wrapped. Sometimes an unexpected, unusual gift is more appreciated. Here are some ideas for creative ways to gift this holiday season.
Give Time: This holiday season I am giving my time to gift wrap at a local bookshop, where the proceeds will go to a non-profit for troubled teens in Los Angeles. Which organization is of interest to you? Call them up and see if they need any volunteers.
Give Skills: What are you good at? Donate your experience or skills. Consider a skill that you have that would be helpful to a charitable organization, such as web design, writing, fundraising, recruiting, etc.
Give Items: Contact your local shelter, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. and see what they need. Your donation of gently worn clothing, household items, wrapped gifts, canned food and more would most likely be greatly appreciated.
Give Money: Find a trustworthy organization to make a monetary contribution to. Contact the organization to ask how donated money is allocated, short term goals and long term goals. Depending on the size of the donation, it could be tax deductible.
