Portion control, out of control?

Submitted by on October 28, 2012 - 11:33 pm

Portion control. The operative word here guys, is control. Everyone has their days of the occasional slipup but let’s be honest here. Oftentimes you overeat more than you should and more times a week than should be excused. The only way you should be eating as much as you do is if you’re running from dinosaurs whenever you leave the house. Since dinosaurs are extinct and you’re probably not an Olympic sprinter you NEED to stay on top of your portion sizes.

Most people aren’t really aware of what their portion sizes for each thing they’re putting on our plates should be so let’s talk about that. Food groups people! Make sure you’re paying attention to the three corners of your pyramids: protein, starch, and a vegetable should do it. Here’s a quick tip about protein size, it should be no bigger than the size and thickness of the palm of your hand.

Also, something that you might not realize is that while you’re eating, your body takes fifteen minutes to get a signal from your stomach to your brain and back again to let you know that you’re full! Eat slower and get some sleep; if you’re well rested, you eat fewer calories throughout the day. Overwhelmed about how to stay on target? I’ve found that can help portion out your meals the right way! Click Here to learn more and even have the chance to win it!!!

I thought I was doing pretty good with portion controls, but I am very excited to see what it is that you are doing with portion control and see how it compares. There is always room for improvement. Thanks for sharing.

I know Shannon. I consider myself to have good eating habits, but we are served so much food when we dine out and we get in a habit of serving ourselves just as much. A great tip that I got from Brittany Spears was when ordering at a restaurant, as server to serve you 1/2 of the meal and box up the other 1/2 to take home.

I should really set myself a goal to wait 15 minutes before going back for seconds, hopefully this article will help during the ‘holiday season’.

    Thanks Ana!

Jessica, I also recommend slowing down when you eat. Really chew each bite 20-30 times. It’s calming and better for your digestion.
