Buen Sabor Wednesday- Going Bananas!

Did you know that two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout? No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes. Because bananas contain 3 natural sugars – fructose, glucose and sucrose, combined with fiber, they give an instant, sustained & substantial boost of energy. (My son can’t get enough of them these days. Only, he calls them “ba”, not “banana”). In addition to being a great power food did you know that bananas are also good for the following:
Anemia, blood pressure, brain power, constipation, hangovers, heartburn, morning sickness, mosquito bites (rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana peel may reduce swelling and irritation), nerves, ulcers and more. I like that bananas can help with stress. Get this, bananas are loaded with potassium, a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your boy’s water balance. When we’re stressed our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing potassium levels. A high-potassium banana snack can help rebalance potassium levels. That being said I’ve decided to feature a yummy Peanut Butter & Banana Smoothie this week.
The ingredients are:
10 ounces skim or soy milk
1 Tablespoon peanut butter
1 medium banana
In a blender, combine all ingredients and mix until smooth. (Use 6 ice cubes for a thicker consistency).
Do you have any other great banana recipes? I’d definitely like to know. Since I am training so hard these days I could use some power food.
