This week I had the pleasure of tastingTalking Rain Twistnatural, certified organic juice water. A natural blend with a twist of juice. I love the combination of flavors in this non-carbonated, lightly sweetened water, made from artesian well water.* I just finished a bottle of the Pomegranate Blueberry flavor, which was delicious! It only had a hint of natural sweetness, produced by agave nectar. It’s the perfect drink for the person that thinks water is boring. I like that it’s refreshing but not overly sweet, as most flavored waters tend to be. And the best part is that it has only 9 calories per serving. So drink up! Organic flavors include: Mango Açaí,West Indies Lime, Mandarin White Tea, Pomegranate Blueberry, Wild Strawberry and Lemon. As I type I am enjoying the Mango Açaí flavor. (I think that I like this one even more than the Pomegranate Blueberry. The best part? A portion of the proceeds go to find a cure for breast cancer). *Artesian well water comes from a confined “artesian” aquifier whose water is pressurized and therefore flows out of the well, without pumping.
Isn’t this interesting? Agave may not be as good for you as we all thought. Check out what this story says about it. I have to say that I am still having my teaspoon of agave in my morning coffee, but why don’t you decide if it’s the best sweetener for you.
I just wanted to share some wise words from Erin McKenna, founder of Baby Cakes NYC (and now L.A. and La Crescenta, California) and author of the book Baby Cakes, (which I featured on LBL’s Tentación Thursday, a few months back.) I am so psyched because I can finally have my Baby Cakes cake! I am celebrating my 40th birthday (yes, you read that right-FORTY!) this Sunday. Baby Cakes is making me a vegan chocolate cake with vanilla icing. I can’t wait to share it with my friends and family.
Here’s to having your cake and eating it, too!
Stay tuned for more on my birthday party, including my yummy (and healthy) cake!

It is no secret, Americans love sugar and we put it in everything. Sugar is added to whole wheat bread and muffins and even cigarettes. Read on to find out how to cut the sugar, click here!
Dr. David Reuben, author of Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Nutrition writes, “…white refined sugar-is not a food. It is a pure chemical extracted from plant sources, purer in fact than cocaine, which it resembles in many ways. Its true name is sucrose and its chemical formula is C12H22O11. It has 12 carbon atoms, 22 hydrogen atoms, 11 oxygen atoms, and absolutely nothing else to offer.”

I came across this product the other day at my local natural food market and I tried the cherry pie… it was delicious! As you all know by now, I LOVE desserts but am off sugar, so these really satisfied my sweet cravings.
According to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for
Americans, it's recommended no more than 8 teaspoons/day of added sugar
based on a 2,000 calories/day diet. That’s 32 grams if you’re reading
labels, and about 6% of your total calories for the day. That means: * 32 total grams / 4 grams per teaspoon = < 8 teaspoons added sugar/day * 1 teaspoon sugar = 1 sugar cube = 1 sugar packet
