What’s the Sugar-Free Team Up To?

We just got the scoop from a few of our Sugar-Free team members…

I have cut out cookies, cakes & Vitamin Water. The baked yummies have been replaced with bananas, grapes, canteloupe & apples. We had a double baby shower at work on Monday and luckily they had fruit, cheese & crackers. I was strong & stayed away from the delicious chocolate cake, brownies & other goodies!

I tried adding Silk French Vanilla in my coffee to replace the mocha syrup & sugar. I’m not a coffee drinker, I’m a cafe mocha drinker and I drink decaf. It’s mostly the taste that I like. So I am also considering switching over to tea (with honey if needed).

I am thirsty more often so I have been drinking more water, which is very difficult for me since I hate water. I miss my Vitamin Water the most!!

So far I’ve cut out white bread, although I love that crusty french bread at restaurants. Also, no more dessert at restaurants! I’ve cut back on wine with dinner, although I did have a few sips last night…but it’s better than the usual 2 glasses!

I’ve filled the fridge with fresh fruit and am eating pretty healthy. Using sweetener in my decaf coffee (I use Sommersweet) and drinking more green tea, because it doesn’t need sweetening.

The real temptation is we go out a lot, and the question is what to order in restaurants. My latest cheat was to get my husband to order dessert so I could have a taste, then eat most of it! So, I am watching that. He’s not ordering dessert right now to help me with this.

I’ve given up Sugar (ice cream and doughnuts) and substituted it with fruits (pineapple) and granola. The frappuccinos, mocha lattes and macchiatos have been replaced with sugar-free iced tea and green tea water.

I’ve given up Splenda! I can’t believe it. I used to put it in everything- coffee, oatmeal. I use agave in my oatmeal now and it’s just fine! Also, instead of a cookie, yesterday, I had an apple.

Meet Sonia

New ImageA little about Sonia…

Sonia is a wife and mother of 2. She’s been married for a little over 10 years and has 2 wonderful daughters, ages 20 and 8. She works at an all-girls school in Los Angeles as an Accounting Assistant. She spends her entire day sitting in front of a computer and loves the people she works with.

Her Hobbies:

She loves eating out and spending time with her family and friends. Someday, she would love to travel the world!!

Her Favorite Music:

She enjoys listening to all types of music, especially if it has a great dance beat!

Sinful Sweet Tooth:

Her weakness is anything chocolate!! Dark chocolate, Chocolate chip cookies, chocolate soufflé…well you get the picture! !

How Much Sugar is Healthy?

According to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, it's recommended no more than 8 teaspoons/day of added sugar based on a 2,000 calories/day diet. That’s 32 grams if you’re reading labels, and about 6% of your total calories for the day.
That means:
* 32 total grams / 4 grams per teaspoon = < 8 teaspoons added sugar/day
* 1 teaspoon sugar = 1 sugar cube = 1 sugar packet
