Join me, and others, as we dig into the amazing book, The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, by John C Maxwell, in a fun (and virtual) mastermind setting!
What is a Mastermind? You might ask.
A Mastermind Study is: A gathering of like-minded people who desire to focus on and achieve their goals through the study of a specific set of information and/or material, usually from one specific book, or author. Or as Napoleon Hill coined it, in his best-selling book, Think and Grow Rich, the mastermind is…
“The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”
He continued, “No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind [the master mind].”
Explore this amazing book with a group of supportive individuals, from around the world, all via conference call. Join us from anywhere that you can get on the phone, and watch you life improve in ways big and small!
Great Ana, but how does it work?
When: 6 Consecutive Wednesdays
from 1:00-2:00PM PDT/4:00-5:00PM EDT, beginning 10/12/16
Where: Via TeleConference (All details will be sent upon registration.)
Investment: Only $47 (Aren’t YOU worth an investment of 89 cents/day?)
But, don’t take my word for it! Listen to what others have to say!
“I joined Ana’s mastermind group for 2 reasons: 1. I respect Ana and the opportunity to work with her was appealing. 2. John Maxwell programs are so credible so, I knew that it would be worth my time..I apply the concepts (that I learned in the group) every day. In fact, I’d like to read the book again.”
-Jodi Sussner, Performance Coach
“I’ve worked with Ana in the past and I know her programs and offerings are definitely worthwhile! I am thankful Ana offered this program. It came at just the right time for me! The knowledge I gained is helping me deliver my aerial teacher training programs from a place of true leadership. Don’t wait until NEXT YEAR to improve your life! Start NOW!
-Jill Franklin, Owner Aerial Physique
“I joined Ana’s mastermind group because my intuition said she would be amazing, and I love seeing people go for their dreams…I loved Ana’s willingness to be open and transparent.”

Strapped for time. Check out my latest time saving tips for wellness pros, or ANYONE, as featured in this month’s Peak Pilates Newsletter.
Time management is an interesting topic; it’s also a very important topic for service professionals because it’s our most valuable commodity, and for some of us it’s our only resource. When we teach a Pilates session, not only are we sharing our expertise, we are dedicating an hour of our time to the session. Basically, we are selling our time. That being said, it’s essential that you value your time and make sure that you are using it in the best way possible. Your time is irreplaceable. You can replace a broken mirror, but you can’t get that hour back. Read more…

My new favorite workout? Hot yoga! Yes, you read that correctly. I know, I know… If you had told me (at any point in time) that I would willingly walk into a hot yoga class, and like it, I would’ve told you that you were NUTS! Well, the truth of the matter is that I walked into class in order to do some research. Nothing more. I was asked to check out a particular hot yoga “sculpt” class, to see how this studio incorporated weights into a yoga class. Let me start by saying that I wasn’t so much a fan of the weights as I was the warmth. The studio was heated to between 92-95 degrees Fahrenheit. It was also a humid warmth. (Apparently they also had a “dry” heated yoga studio. I much prefer humidity over really dry heat, so I was perfectly happy there.) What I came to realize during that class was that it was exactly what I needed, a place to sweat out the small stuff. Taking that time to focus on my body and my breath, in a warm space, was so calming. I just loved it. I’ve now gotten kinda hooked, and am actually getting ready to head out to a yoga class tonight.
What do you do to relax and recharge? If you’re feeling like the stress of the life, and the upcoming holidays, is getting to you I encourage you to find an outlet where you, too, can sweat out the small stuff.

I started this article by revealing the first of my three insider secrets to breaking the cycle of trading hours for dollars to help you soar in business and life in 2016. What was the first insider secret, you ask? The riches are in the niches!
That means determine what sets YOU apart from other Pilates instructors. Perhaps that’s by recognizing what you are passionate about, in life and in your work. Maybe you teach more modalities than just Pilates. Or maybe you make outcalls to clients. Perhaps you attract a particular audience. Your job is not to work with everyone—in fact, that’s the opposite of what you should be doing.
The key to failure is trying to please everybody.
• You’ve never raised your rates before.
• Eight or nine out of every 10 prospective clients are saying “yes” to your rates.
• Other instructors are charging more than you even though you have more experience.
• The only reason you haven’t yet raised your rates is because of fear.
Make it immediately clear WHAT problem you solve.
Make it immediately clear WHAT result they can expect to achieve by working with you.
Have ONE compelling message that is instantly clear.
Have an Opt-In Box, which gathers their name and e-mail address, ABOVE the “fold” (meaning that it can be seen without scrolling down).

“The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.” Maureen Dowd
I’ve been excited to write this article for weeks now, yet each time I sit down to write it I just end up with a bunch of ideas floating all over the page. Why? Because I could go on and on about why service professionals aren’t claiming their worth and how passionate I am about changing that. In an effort to spare you all of the details, I’ve distilled the chatter in my head down to the three major pitfalls that I see over and over again and three insider secrets to break the cycle and help you soar in business and life.
Most of us became Pilates instructors because we truly believe in Pilates and we have seen it change bodies and lives. However somewhere along the journey we stopped treating our businesses as such and began running them like charitable organizations or hobbies. The three major pitfalls that I see over and over again are that most Pilates instructors and many other wellness professionals, although offering an important and valued service, haven’t distinguished themselves from the rest of the herd, are afraid to ask for better compensation, and don’t take advantage of this amazing FREE vehicle that we call the Internet. Because of that, they remain frustrated and under-compensated, attracting less than ideal clients and remain relatively unknown. All of that can end, however. Read on for the first of my three insider secrets to help you soar this year.
Insider Secret #1 -The riches are in the niches
Ok, so you’re a Pilates Instructor. Well, if you live in Los Angeles, like me, you’re one of many. So the real question is “What sets you apart from the rest of the herd?” A great place to start is by looking at your current clientele. What is the common thread between the majority of your clients? Perhaps your clients are on a mission to lose weight, or maybe they come to you out of physical pain. You might draw a young crowd or an older one. Maybe you offer additional services, like wellness coaching, nutrition, massage, etc. Work with what you have. Look for a common thread and build on it. The key is to have a clear niche that is focused on solving a specific problem that people are motivated to pay for. You don’t need to serve everyone, (nor should you try to). You should only serve those who need exactly what you have to offer and have the resources to pay you fairly for it.
Once you’ve figured out your niche you can create your unique brand. I’ve branded myself a Shift Agent because I inspire women to shift their lives to live (what I have coined) La Buena Life. I’ve used my Latino heritage and passion for helping others to live healthy & wealthy lives to define my brand. As you might expect, I often sprinkle Spanish into my Pilates instruction, website, e-zine and more. (Sound loco? Perhaps it is, but it’s very “me.” No one else can do a better job of being me, than me. The key is to revel in your authentic self and share it with the world. Nowadays consumers are interested in transparency. The more real and transparent you can be, the better).
Another example is my colleague, Pilates instructor Cassie Ho, (www.blogilates.com), who features fitness, food and fun on her uber-popular blog, and web series BlogilatesTV. So what sets YOU apart? What are you passionate about? Perhaps you teach more modalities than just Pilates. Or maybe you make out-calls to clients. Maybe you attract a particular audience. Your job is not to work with everyone—in fact, that’s the opposite of what you should be doing.
The key to failure is trying to please everybody.
In order to be most successful, follow your passion, use your talents and be SPECIFIC about your ideal client. (By the way, your uniqueness might be something less obvious, such as your love for horses. Whatever it is, use it!)

Here are 5 of my “go to” rules for getting summertime (or anytime) fit & healthy!
Start the day with a healthy breakfast.
It’s so easy to blame a busy schedule, or a lack of appetite for not eating a good (or any) breakfast. The thing is that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Plus, according to Andrea Giancoli, R.D., spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, “People who skip breakfast tend to overeat at the next meal”. Well, that isn’t very good, is it? A great, hearty breakfast, which will keep you full for hours, and trim is a bowl of steel cut oatmeal with berries, or as some people refer to it, “Irish Oatmeal”. This oatmeal is low in sugar and high in fiber, keeping you fuller and your blood sugar levels more level, making you trim and nicer to be around.
Aim to eat foods whose names you can pronounce.
If you can’t even say it, do you want to eat it? Maybe. Sure there are some natural ingredients that may have strange or long names, but as a general rule I figure that if I can’t pronounce the ingredients names, or even recognize them I’m probably better avoiding that food, all together. As a general rule, processed foods (with all those words you can’t pronounce) aren’t very healthy, are hard to digest AND they won’t really satisfy you. So try sticking to foods in their most natural state.
Eat every 3-4 hours.
Ok, I’m not saying to binge every 3-4 hours. Oh no! I mean, eat smaller meals throughout the day. It may sound hard or crazy, but just think about it. A car runs better when it has a full tank, not when it’s dragging on “empty”. Do what you can to eat something small and healthy every 3-4 hours, or so, and you’ll see how much more energized (and trim) you are.
Pack half of it up.
When dining out a great trick that I use, which I credit Brittany Spears for turning me on to, is ordering my meal and asking for half of it to be boxed up “to go”. We all know that restaurants over serve us (well, that’s unless We’re dining French or eating sushi) so it’s our job to pull back the reigns a little. The good news is that by doing this you will still enjoy a delicious meal and BONUS-you can enjoy it again, the following day.
Make every bite count.
Count as you chew. Did you know that to properly digest food and receive the most nutrients we should chew each bite 20-30 times? Yes siree-Bob! Slow down, light a candle, put on some smooth tunes and ENJOY your food. Make every chew count, literally!
Have a super fun summer!

It’s official! The holidays really are here. I mean, Halloween has come and gone and now we’re really in full holiday swing. We all know that the holidays are supposed to be all about peace, love and joy, however they can also be stressful. Why? Oh, I don’t know, maybe because they just creep up on us and we aren’t necessarily ready for them. Or because when we actually do get out to the stores to buy food or gifts we experience parking rage, (that of others, or even our own). Or maybe because we have to travel, (at the busiest travel time of year), to see our families, whom we love but don’t always agree with us on everything, causing us undue stress. That being said, in order to make your holidays more peaceful and fun I’ve come up with 7 simple ways to reduce your stress during this season, or anytime. Here they are:
1. Use imagery~ Take a moment to imagine yourself in a beautiful, peaceful place. Maybe it’s a luxurious beach resort that you vacationed at or somewhere that you dream of going to. The key is to, momentarily, remove yourself from the anxiety provoking environment you are in order to release some of the tension you feel.
2. Breathe!~ Breathing exercises are a great way to relieve stress anytime and anywhere. They’re easy to learn, easy to use, and can be done as soon as you feel any tension and immediately begin feeling better. A simple and effective exercise is to “inhale peace” and “exhale stress”.
3. Light Up (a candle that is)~ Aromatherapy can help you feel calmer and more at peace. Light an aromatherapy candle or have essential oils available to smell in times of stress and chaos.
4. Move That Body!~ Get up from sitting, (especially important on long flights). Take a short walk. In as little as 5 minutes you will feel like you were able to separate yourself from the current situation, regroup and feel like yourself again.
5. Have a Drink~ To relax nothing is better than a cup of herbal tea. Chamomile tea is one of my favorites because in addition to being an aid for stomach aches, (which are often stress related), it is also a great sleep aid.
6. Listen to Music~ Music can really transport you. When you are feeling stressed just tune in to some mellow or soothing music and watch your stress just slip away.
7. Develop a Positive Attitude~ Optimists and positive thinkers experience better health, less stress, and más suerte (more luck) in life. Developing a more positive frame of mind may take a little time and practice, however it can change your life and how you live it. Practice makes perfect and the rewards are worth it.
Here’s to a fun and stress-free holiday season!

This morning I awoke to the buzz of my iPhone. A dear friend wanted to share Gweneth Paltrow’s latest blog post, and more importantly, an article on conscious uncoupling. In only the way spirit provides, coincidentally, (or not so coincidentally), I recently had the most interesting conversation with the article’s co-author, Dr Habib Sadeghi. As noted in both the article, and in my The Shift with And & Skip radio show interview, Dr Sadeghi is a very wise man.
Curious why Gweneth and Chris’s marriage, as well as 50% of marriages end in divorce? Read on…
Sending love and light out to Gweneth, Chris and all of us who at some point have consciously chosen to uncouple.

We are constantly battling stress and toxins in our life. Short of living in a bubble we will never be able to avoid them completely. So until our bubble-homes are built here are some simple tips to begin to detox your body, and get it back into balance.
Baja Sal Cut the salt – Many foods are already high in salt, no need to add any more.
Suave Con el Alcohol Cut back on (or nix) the alcohol and caffeinated drinks (such as coffee, tea and soda). – These can all dehydrate the body.
De Colores Eat at least one colorful meal a day. You’re busy, and on the go. Make sure that at least one meal a day is super colorful, and nutrient-dense.
¡Muévete! Move it! – Not only will moving your body help you flush out toxins, stimulate endorphins and boost your energy, as Joseph Pilates said “Movement heals”.
Are you struggling to shed the holiday (or any) weight, and get your body back into balance? Well then, it’s time to let ME help YOU!
What have you got to lose? Oh yes, that’s right…The 5, 10, 20, or more pounds that have been dragging down. Your lack of energy. Your overall malaise.
What have you got to gain? A slimmer, healthier, more vibrant, more radiant and more confident YOU!
(Additional side effects may include: improved sleep, glowing skin and a more positive attitude!) 🙂

A few months back I was asked by Latina magazine to share 5 simple ways to incorporate more fitness into a daily routine. Here’s what I shared:
1. ¡Horario, Baby! Schedule it! Give your workouts (and your health) as much importance as your other life events. (They’re probably even more important, in the scheme of things, because if you’re not healthy you’re of no good to anyone else, either.) Only YOU can set aside time for you. So set some time aside and exercise!
2. ¡Disfrútate! Have fun! Make it fun by joining a friend. Instead of cocktails take a walk together. Women thrive in a community.
3. ¡Camina, Chica! Walk, Girl! Park father from your destination and walk (to work, the mall, etc).
4. ¡Sube! Take the stairs, (or park farther from your destination), whenever possible.
5. ¡Pon to smartphone a trabajar! Make your smartphone work for you! Join an online workout program that you can access from any device, including your smartphone. Learn more about my new online program here!

6 great uses for lemons, for beauty, home and health.
Freshen your breath!
Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice on your tongue, swish and swallow. Not only can this lower pH levels, but it also kills stinky-breath causing bacteria.
Moisturize your cara (face)!
Don’t let the cold weather get your skin down. Mix even parts of lemon juice and honey. Apply to your cara y cuello, (face and neck), and relax for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cold water and you’re good to go.
Add a few lemon peels to your winter fire or let them boil on the stove. There’s nothing quite like a fresh, citrus scent, floating through the air.
Mix equal parts of lemon juice and water, pour into a spray bottle and voilà, you have your own all-purpose cleaner.
New year, clean body
Lemon water is a great detoxifier for your body. Squeeze the juice from half of a lemon in your water. For added flavor, cut up the remainder of the lemon and toss into the glass.
And my personal favorite…
Squash a cold
Put 1 Tbsp of freshly grated ginger in boiling water and steep for 3 minutes. In a mug place 1 Tbsp each of lemon juice and honey. Strain the ginger tea into the mug, stir and say adios to that cold!
How do you use lemons? Please share!

By Guest Blogger Jill Franklin
Jill is a Priceless Pilates Success Coaching member
and the creator of Aerial Physique
Have you ever dreamed of being able to do a pull up? I did as well, once upon a time. With consistent aerial classes, within just a couple of months you will be able to compete with the guys in the pull up department. Your core muscle are worked a tremendous amount from lifting your legs over your head, as well as in climbing. I have practiced Pilates, ballet and yoga for years, all which are amazing, but nothing has given me more strength in my upper body and core than aerial work.
2. INCREASED BODY AWARENESS
In aerial work you have another appendage to deal with… the fabric! In the beginning, figuring out how to wrap your wrists, feet and waist around the fabric seems like a life-size puzzle. It can be a bit confusing but, just like learning anything, new practice makes perfect. Your first time upside down you’ll notice that it’s a lot more challenging than being right side up. When we go in an inversion our brain has to work harder to achieve the task at hand. Plus, everything seems backwards. We aren’t sure which way is forward which is back and it’s easy to lose track of your right and left. In time your body adapts and you notice how much more body awareness you have, even when you’re right side up!
3. BEST WORK-OUT WITHOUT “WORKING OUT”
Aerial work is an art form, as well as an exercise program. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve had a taste of ballet, gymnastics and Pilates, all in one. You definitely won’t feel like it was your typical gym workout or run on the treadmill. The good news is, without feeling like you were “working out”, I guarantee you will wake up 2 days later and feel muscles in your arms, core and back you never knew you had!
4. FEEL AMAZING! INSIDE & OUT
Although we need gravity to keep us grounded, it can also be to blame for the signs of aging and compression in our bodies. It has been proven that inversions, (being upside down), help with circulation, decompressing your spine and livening up your mood. Doing aerial work, not only will your strength and flexibility improve in your physical structure, your mind and spirit will become more confident and fearless!
I love watching the transformation in people during the class. They come in a bit timid and not quite sure what to expect. Within the hour I see their faces light up, laughter, fears conquered, self-esteem boosted and a new addiction to being upside down. You may arrive feeling nervous but get ready to leave feeling free and full of excitement!
ABOUT AERIAL PHYSIQUE
What is Aerial Physique? Jill Franklin’s Aerial Physique is designed to give you the strength of a Cirque du Soleil performer, the beautiful lines of a ballet dancer and the ease of movement of a Pilates pro. Aerial Silk (also known as tissue, or aerial fabric, depending on your preference) is a type of performance art, as well as a new fitness craze in which “aerialists” perform tricks and exercises while hanging from a very special fabric. Aerialists climb in various ways on the suspended fabric, wrap, invert, and spiral their bodies into and out of an array of positions. Do you love what you do for a living, or do you wish you were doing something else? There’s nothing wrong with wishing that you were doing something else, as long as you know what it is that you’d like to do. In other words, there’s no point in staying in a situation that no longer serves you and just griping about it. The best way to get out of that situation and into another one of your choosing (whether it be a job, a relationship, a home-whatever), is to know what you’d prefer to be doing, having, living. Complaining about it won’t change the situation and until you get clear on what you DO want and put the focus of your attention THERE you will remain right here, stuck where you DON’T WANT TO BE!
Here’s a simple exercise that you can do right now, to shift your thoughts and get you in a positive and exciting zone. All that you need to do is describe your ideal workday (or relationship, home, etc). Close your eyes and describe it aloud, words are very powerful. Better yet, record your voice while you describe and it and then transcribe what you said. This is doubly powerful! Pay attention to how you feel. As you are truly seeing yourself in this ideal situation enjoy the sensation and believe that you are living it. (That way you can always come back to that feeling when you need a little redirection).
What did you say? What did you write? How far off are you from living your ideal workday or situation? Perhaps there are only a few tweaks to be made or maybe there are big changes. The exciting part is that you now KNOW what you wish you were doing (living, having). And knowing is half the battle. What steps will you take next to make that dream a reality?
Next, create a mantra, (a positive affirmation), for yourself. It might go something like this… “I NOW see myself living my ideal workday, a day filled with performing, music, dancing, cooking and dining with friends & family.” (And YES, this actually is someone’s ideal workday. Someone that is living THEIR La Buena Life). This could be you.
See, Believe, Achieve!

As busy professionals, entrepreneurs and super moms, we are all trying to enjoy our lives and live them on our own terms. We want to be the best that we can with those that we interact but we can only do that if we are also good to ourselves. Here are 5 simple ways to create more balance in your life, so that you can be the best version of yourself, for yourself and for others.
Release Some of Your Work Load – Allow yourself permission to outsource some of life’s tasks that either you don’t enjoy, or you just aren’t particularly good at. (Let’s be honest here. We are not all good at everything). This could be work tasks, or even housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, etc.
Self-Assess – Take a look at where you spend your time and energy. Make two lists. On the first one write what you are good at and love doing. On the second one write what you are not as good at or don’t enjoy doing. Prioritize items on the first list, (don’t try to do them all at once), and delegate items on the second list to someone else to do.
Journal Daily – Writing down your thoughts first thing every morning is a great way to start your day. This in not structured writing. It’s just a stream of consciousness, (3 pages being the goal). You might write your “to do” list or maybe you write a revelation that you had. It doesn’t matter what you write. The idea is to clear your head of the clutter and start your day fresh, energized and optimistic about what it holds.
Take a “Time Out” – No you haven’t been bad, but you may feel badly if you don’t take time out. Give yourself a 5 minute “refresher” each day. This can be as simple as lying on the floor, with your knees bent, feet on the floor and a cloth over your eyes, (to block out light and relax your eyes). Take a few deep breaths and relax por cinco minutos.
Plan Fun – Schedule yourself back into your life. Plan a date night, family time, friend time or a spa day. Take an art class, ride a horse, do what moves YOU! This will not only help you find balance in your life it’ll also fuel your creativity and give you more energy to share with others.
Here’s to having more life and less stress this year.Older Posts »
