Buen Sabor Wednesday-Picadillo Tacos (with raisins)

Submitted by on April 15, 2009 - 10:30 am

Raisins are easy to carry with you, taste good and have a host of other health benefits. Raisins are rich in antioxidants, which protect our bodies against free radical damage and have been linked to Cancer prevention. They contain many B vitamins, known for boosting energy. They are a good source of fiber, which is important for your body to stay regular. Contrary to what you might think, although sweet, raisins do not cause cavities. The oleanolic acid found within them promotes oral health, by killing the bacteria that causes cavities & periodontal disease. Raisins are also a preventative measure for Macular Degeneration, which has to do with the health of your eyesight. Raisins contain Calcium which in known for promoting bone health. Eating enough calcium will also help protect against osteoporosis.

I’ve always liked raisin, but now I think that I’ll give them a little more credit, along with the almonds I featured a few weeks ago. That being said, I thought I’d share this recipe for Picadillo Tacos (which call for raisins). Click here for the recipe.

¡Buen provecho! Let me know what you think!

I know. I feel better when I am not consuming a lot of dairy. I will be sure to eat raisins, to help keep my calcium level up.

I love La Buena Life because theres always something new, refreshing and encouraging to keep me motivated to continue improving the quality of my life. No matter what kind of day I’ve had, I always can’t wait to check La Buena Life and see whats new. I feel as though this community is really what keeps me connected to keeping in mind the importance of living a healthy, positive lifestyle. Theres so many websites out there that attempt to do the same, but LBL offers a sense of community and sincerity that I haven’t experienced else where. And while I was drawn here initially because of the interest in feeling good and looking good, LBL has probably had the most impact in reminding me to do good. Since coming here and consistently hearing stories about great people out there, and learning about simple ways that I can have a positive impact (like the 29 gifts challenge), I’ve really started to take philanthropy more seriously. Thanks for all you’ve brought to us on LaBuenaLife, I’m hooked!
