Fabuloso Friday – Best Friends Animal Society

Submitted by on November 27, 2009 - 11:30 am

After a day of eating well and giving thanks I couldn’t help but feature an organization for the benefit of pets. I love my Yorkie, Douglas, (who has been with me for the past 8 years). I couldn’t imagine life without him. So this week I am featuring Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends has been around since the early 1980’s has a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us. This is so true. Best Friends has a campaign called No More Homeless Pets. This campaign is a grassroots effort to place dogs and cats who were considered “unadoptable” into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. On any given day the The Best Friends Animal Sanctuary at Angel Canyon, at the heart of the Golden Circle of national parks in southern Utah, is home to about 2,000 dogs, cats, and other animals, who come from shelters and rescue groups around the country for special care they can only receive at Best Friends. These animals have special behavioral or physical needs. Their expert staff, which includes veterinarians, trainers and caregivers, offer them all the help they require. Many of these animals are ready to go to good homes after just a few weeks of this special, loving care. But Best Friends is does not only perform this important work in Utah. They work with humane groups, individuals & entire communities — to set up spay/neuter, shelter, foster and adoption programs in neighborhoods, cities, and states throughout the United States.

Douglas is so darn cute – please give him a big ol’ smooch for me!

I am behind this cause 1 bazillion percent! We rescued our “unadoptable” dog, Jack, about 3.5 years ago and he’s the absolute smartest dog I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. People think I spoil him with toys, but it’s really to test his command of language. He’s passed every test. This intelligent animal, who was to be put to death the day before we adopted him, already knows each and every one of his toys – now numbering around 40 and growing. Jack is truly brilliant and totally loveable! He helps comfort and care for the foster puppies and kittens we take into our home. One of his favorites was a tiny siamese lilacpoint we called JJ (Jack, Jr). Jack loved that little kitten as if it were his own! Truly, truly remarkable. Jack bathed, played with and guarded the tiny fellow 24×7!

I salute you, BFAS & Ana, and all organizations and individuals worldwide who “get it”. God bless you!
