As many of you know a few months back I interviewed My Run Writer, Producer & Director, Tim Vandesteeg. Shortly thereafter I attending the Los Angeles screening of My Run. My Run, narrated by Billy Bob Thornton, is the story of Terry Hitchcock, a man who lost his wife to breast cancer, struggled to raise three children on his own, and then finished 75 consecutive marathons in 75 consecutive days to bring attention to the hardships faced by all single parent families. It’s such a moving story. I was fortunate enough to meet Terry Hitchcock at the screening. What an honor.
Yesterday I received an email from My Run Associate Producer, Christine Redlin. This is what she wrote:
“Thank you so much for your good thoughts and support from afar for MY RUN it paid off…I am proud to share that our film project MY RUN – won the Audience Award at the International Austin Film Festival last month when it had the world premiere! This is a feather in our cap…because the audience award is a about “the people” and they vote to say that the film has a enough universal themes, and that it resonates with all…
Terry Hitchcock attended the premiere with his son Chris 10-23-09 and the film and Terry got a standing ovation – very cool!! The buzz continued at the fest so on Monday night (10-29), we had a sold out crowd (and they actually had to add 40 seats of chairs to accommodate the over 200 people that packed the theater!
MY RUN was the highest rated and most reviewed film at the Austin film festival.”
In addition to winning The Audience Award at the Austin International Film Festival My Run was also recently awarded The Dove “Family-Approved Seal” and 5 Doves from The Dove Foundation (their highest quality rating), “Here is an astonishing documentary about one man’s journey to bring attention to the world about being a single parent. It’s truly a story of endurance and faith” said The Dove Foundation.
